If you’ve been around for the last month you know that I have been testing what feels like 100 mascaras. Really it was only twelve but I wanted to use each one at least two times to make sure I knew the feel and my true thoughts on each of them! Without further ado, here is my thoughts.. they are all ranked from my least favorite to my favorite! I also want to mention that these are all ranked based on my preference on wand shape, how much product there was on the wand, how long it took me to achieve the look I wanted {or if I could achieve the look I wanted} as well as if it was flakey throughout the day. Another side note, taking selfies is probably my least favorite thing. Taking these photos was took more time than I would like to admit lol there is something about someone taking your picture or even using the tripod that I appreciate SO much more now.
So this was my least favorite by far. It didn’t feel like there was any product on the wand and it took many tries to even get this amount on my lashes. It’s not very buildable and I wasn’t a fan of the wand shape either. It didn’t really stay on all day either, by the time I went to take it off, there wasn’t much to it. 11. Tarte Big Ego
This one was another that wasn’t buildable and really even struggled to get this much product onto my lashes. I did love the shape of the wand but it really was over for me with the lack of product on the wand. It stayed on fine throughout the day but I felt like there was nothing special about my lashes that day. This is a Tarte mascara and a full size tube costs $23. The main reason this is ranked so low is because those bristles actually HURT my lid when I would get down to the base of the lash. The wand disqualified this as an option for me all together just because those bristles are so sharp and that resulted in not a ton of product transferring to the brush. It did stay on really well throughout the day though. This mascara is by Benefit and it was $25 fir a full sized tube. You can read more about it here.
Benefit really must love those bristle-y brushes. This wand wasn’t painful at all but when the brushes are like this it seems to take a lot more work to get the product to transfer well onto the lash. I do like the length that this mascara added to my lashes though! If you are a fan of mascaras that just lengthen the lash then this could be a good option for you because it stayed on really well throughout the day. This is honestly the worst wand I have ever experienced, it might be a preference thing but from reading above you guys know I’m not a super fan of the pointy rubber bristles but then this wand is curved and bristled. Not just like a small curve but a very dramatic curve. From what I have learned I think that this type of wand lengthens better which was nice, but the work to get the mascara thicker with the wand was not worth it for me. To me there wasn’t much to my lashes at the beginning of the day so there wasn’t a whole lot to take off at night but it did stay on. This is YSL and you can snag a full sized tube for $29. I feel like I have heard such good things about this one and maybe that is why I had more expectations for this mascara but it was just so so in my opinion. It was a fine wand but it didn’t build very well and nothing stood out to me. I will say though that this mascara almost makes me look like I have top and bottom eyeliner on so if that is your jam it could totally work for you and remove a step of getting ready. I actually really liked this mascara considering I had no idea what the brand was lol I think this mascara would be good for like a no makeup makeup day. If you just through on some mascara and cc cream and run out the door. It stayed on all day with no issues and it is a good base. This would be a good one to build with another lengthening mascara because the length is what I thought was missing from this! But other than that its not bad! This brand has really surprised me this month! I did not expect to put two of their mascaras in my top five but alas, here we are. I actually really like the wand on this one and it had both really good length and great volume! It’s another really great product but it had some tough competition with the top four mostly due to the others having more volume! 4. Milk Kush
I one thousand percent thought this was going to be in my bottom 3 when I first picked up the tube. I know that this is a mini tube but it just felt cheap when I help it! Well it turns out that I actually really liked it! I achieved a full and lengthened look with minimum effort! I will say though that it didn’t seem like there was any product in the tube though, like it might run out quickly. But overall it is great and it lasted all day long without flaking. I love this mascara so so much! I love the tube/packaging lol but that’s besides the point. It applied so well, this is perfect when you are in a hurry and have 5 seconds to look alive and ready for the world. It lengthened and looks full without a whole lot of effort. The brush is probably my favorite out of all 12 kinds, plus the product comes out of the tube perfectly. You can find this mascara at Sephora for $24 and you can shop it here! This definitely feels like one I will rebuy again and again.
2. Marc Jacobs
This was another mascara that I didn’t expect to like yet here we are in the top two! I REALLY liked this one and I don’t know if its because it is a well known pricey brand but I didn’t want to like it either. Haha but it works VERY WELL. I mean look at that length and how full they are! It is very buildable but it did take longer to get this look than my number one choice which is why it is number 2. This was hands down my favorite! I love the length it gives my lashes but still makes them look full and it doesn’t take 45 swipes to get the correct amount of product on my lashes. The wand is absolutely perfect as well! Ιt lasted all day and I love how much bang you get for your buck! You can find this at Sephora for $25.
