Packing for a 14 Day Trip to Iceland, Scotland, Denmark and Sweden

Hi Friends!

To start out this post I just want to say that this is a very specific packing list for the trip that we took! We did three days in Iceland, then we did an eight day cruise and once the cruise was done, we spent three days exploring Copenhagen and Sweden. This packing list isn’t going to be for everybody, but if you are taking a trip similar to what we did, this will be very helpful for you! I’m going to start off by sharing my general packing list and then when I was packing for myself, I broke it down specifically to each day because I had limited space in what I could bring so I wanted to make sure that everything would fit. I will also share the broken down version of the things that I packed for myself each day based on the activities that we were doing. Lastly, I am also going to share a few things that I didn’t pack that I wish I would have brought! This might be extensive so I hope this helps even just one person!

These things that are in the graphic below are the clothing specifics that I packed for the colder weather in Iceland. Also I should add that not only was it cold, but it was very wet which is very normal! I also used these things here and there in different locations but these were to keep me warm and dry during our Iceland portion.

| Black Joggers | 2 Pack Base Layer Long Sleeves | Black Leggings | Grey Jumper |

| Black Waterproof Gloves | Waterproof Duck Boots | Wool Socks | Rain Jacket |

| Waterproof Hiking Rain Pants |

General Packing List

Days and Destinations

Day One - Plane/Iceland

I kept it comfortable and casual on the travel days because let’s be honest, those are exhausting and the last thing I want to be wearing is something restricting like jeans! I got this jumpsuit from Amazon and I ended up wearing it a lot while on the trip.

Day Nine - Inverness, Scotland

Day Outfit

Dinner Outfit

    • For dinner this night I ended up just staying in what I wore earlier in the day out in Inverness. We got back to the boat later than usual and decided to play cards and have a low-key dinner in the casual dining area.

Emergency Kit Supplies

This kit is for more than just sea sickness so if you're setting sail on the open seas or embarking on a river cruise, it's important to be prepared for any emergency that may arise. After being on a handful of different cruise lines I have come to a few conclusions, one being the medicines that they do sell are pricey in the gift shops. This is probably obvious but I am not a doctor and anything you plan to take should be run by a professional prior to taking it! These are the things that I came up with that are my/our must-have essentials for a cruise emergency first aid kit. Hopefully you can be fully prepared for any situation that may arise during your own vacations!

| Emergen-C | DayQuil | NyQuil | Allergy Medicine | Tampons/Pads | Midol | Bandaids |

| Antibiotic Ointment | Hand Sanitizer | Ibuprofen | Tylenol | Liquid IV | Sunscreen | Aloe |

| Tide To Go Pen | Dramamine | Safety Pins | Tweezers | Tums |

Again, I know that was a lot of information and this post isn’t going to be for everybody, but when we were prepping for this trip, it was almost impossible to find a packing list for exactly what we were doing, and I wanted to make sure that anybody doing a trip like this in the future would have a little bit more help than we did! Keep in mind we were there in June and it was still chilly in most of the locations that we visited! If you have any questions at all, I am more than happy to answer those for you! You can drop a comment below or you can email me at tarynintotravel@gmail.com and I will get back to you as soon as possible!

Much Love,

Spend A Day In Kirkwall, Scotland

Hi Friends!

Kirkwall was our first port stop in Scotland and I loved this day so much! As I was writing this blog post I realized that pretty much everything we did when we were in Kirkwall was something that we stumbled upon while walking around. There was a mixup with getting off the ship so we had literally like two hours to kill while waiting for my parents to get off and by the time we met up with them we wandered some more! We had the best day though, we wandered into coffee shops, thrift stores, castles, libraries, museums, restaurants, gift shops, churches and so much more and it was just the best most relaxing day considering nothing in the morning went to plan. But we had about 6 hours to spend wandering the city and it feels like we walked and explored SO much in that small amount of time!

A Few Things to Have on Hand!

  1. Rain Jacket

  2. Umbrella

  3. Backpack for purchases

  4. Camera or Phone for pictures

  5. LAYERS! I was so thankful that I had a rain jacket, a sweatshirt and a t-shirt on because I shed and added layers all day long!

Where to Stop!

Welcome center - Usually I wouldn’t suggest a welcome center as a place that you probably want to check out when you are visiting somewhere new but the welcome center in Kirkwall was so helpful. The staff were so knowledgeable and happy to help us with questions about maps, locations of attractions, spots to eat, shopping, bus schedules, wifi locations and so much more. Another perk of the welcome center was that it was also a very cute gift shop with actually cute items to purchase! We stopped there at the beginning of the day and also on the way out just to look at last minute souvenirs!

Archive Coffee Shop - We stopped in here to get coffee and use their wifi for a few minutes to check on where my parents were and I am so glad we stopped because it was the cutest little coffee shop. We both got lattes and they were good! They also had a food menu but we weren’t eating. A great place to stop for a pick me up and to check on missed messages if you didn’t have service there like us! Haha

Kirkwall Library and Archive - Another place that I wouldn’t usually add to a list of places to visit when you are in a new city is a library but it was such a cool place to check out. It was raining right when we got into Kirkwall and we decided to go in the library just to see what it was like. But it was so fun! There was free wifi, bathrooms and they actually had books for sale. I needed up getting a few to use as decor and coffee table books for home. I would definitely suggest going into the library, even for just a few minutes!

Bishop’s and Earl’s Palace - Another place we stumbled upon was this old-timey castle palace thing which was SO cool to see inside of. It was like a medieval looking building and it was right next to the St Magnus Cathedral. It was dated all the way back to 1263 and it was just so interesting to see and imagine how life was lived inside the building. We spent maybe like 25 minutes here but if you are taking a guided tour I could see you spending more time and getting a ton more information. I would absolutely recommend checking out this spot!

The Orkney Museum - We didn’t plan to stop in here but we walked by it while we were exploring and the door said free so we figured we had nothing to loose! The museum was fairly small but it had information on the history of Orkney all the way back to the Stone Age. There were things to look at from the Vikings all the way until present day. I’m glad we stumbled upon it and went in. They also had restrooms that were available to use and another cute gift shop at the end of exploring.

St Magnus Cathedral - We went in here once we met up with my parents and it was so pretty inside. It was raining pretty hard at this point so we were happy to be inside but it was so neat to just learn a little more about this cathedral. Some of the dates that we were reading were just so interesting, some dated back to the 11th century. Also the stained glass was just incredible! It didn’t take us too long to walk through but it was absolutely worth the stop for us.

Harbour Fry Fish & Chips - I was SO happy to stumble upon this restaurant. It was on the main strip of shops and as you can see below, it literally said “ask about our gluten free options” and WOW was it yummy! The inside was small but like a fast paced diner almost. We ended up sharing a table with a couple and their Australian shepherd (some of you probably know we have two Aussies at home!!) and had the best time. It was great conversation with locals and was honestly the highlight of our day. The fish was crispy and delicious and 10/10 recommend eating here if you are visiting! Plus the staff was SO friendly! I can’t say enough good things about this spot!

There were also lots of other shops along the main walkway including the cutest book shop that had so much to choose from. There was also a fun record store that we spent way too much time in! The record store also had things like legos, games, puzzles, it reminded me sort of like a game stop with fewer video games. There were also so many thrift stores that we wandered into. We went to like three or four different ones and I got a couple of cute paintings that now live in my house. I liked being able to get things for the house that weren’t from a gift shop but there is like a history to those items! Other than that there were lots of stores that had souvenirs and gifts that we loved. OH and there was an art fair that was cute to walk through. My best advice would be to just go into places even if you think it might be something you wouldn’t usually stop at.

With only spending about half of a day here, as you can tell we were able to fit so many things in and had a great day! If we had a little bit more time we probably would have ventured out and did some things outside of the city. But that just means we need to visit again for a longer amount of time! I could absolutely see us visiting Scotland again in the near future! Have you been to Scotland? What was your favorite part when you were there? As always, if you have any questions at all, please comment below or send me an email at tarynintotravel@gmail.com and I will get back to you asap!

Much Love,

Emma

Emergency Kit for a Cruise

Were back from our trip to Iceland, Scotland, Denmark and Sweden trip and after being on a longer cruise I feel like I have a pretty good grasp on things that need to go into an emergency kit for said cruises! Two, the only medicines that I was told I could get from staff was seasickness and motion sickness pills. Three, there is nothing worse than needing medicine and it not being available to you. Even though you are on the cruise to relax, the reality is that accidents and medical emergencies can happen at any time. Anyways, enough blabbing about why it's essential to have a well-stocked emergency first aid kit on board. This is probably obvious but I am not a doctor and anything you plan to take should be run by a professional prior to taking it! These are the things that I came up with that are my/our must-have essentials for a cruise emergency first aid kit. Hopefully you can be fully prepared for any situation that may arise during your own vacations!

Don't let unexpected situations ruin your cruise vacation. Stay safe and be prepared with our expertly curated emergency kit, designed specifically for cruising. Get yours now and sail with peace of mind. #cruiseemergencykit #vacationpreparedness #cr

I also wanted to add a few links for premade cruise kits that you can buy for your trip if you don’t want to put one together yourself! There are lots of options to choose from! Options for sea sickness, hangovers and just medicines in general!

As I said, I haven’t been on a TON of cruises but I have been on a handful and I have learned that having a well-stocked cruise emergency first aid kit is essential for any traveler embarking on a cruise. Unless you want to spend and arm and a leg in the gift shop as well as being on the schedule of the store being opened or not, it is important to include items such as medication, bandages, and seasickness remedies in your kit. Remember to also consider any specific medical needs for you and your traveling companions, and consult with your healthcare provider before setting sail. It helped us so much being prepared on our last cruise and that was actually when we learned a few things that we should have added before. Once we got home I made a comprehensive first aid kit list of things to have on hand in order for us to make sure we are having an enjoyable cruise experience. I seriously relate to the saying, "It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it”! So when you are packing for your next cruise make sure you don't forget to pack your cruise emergency first aid kit and be able to cruise with peace of mind that you have the essentials that you need! If you think there is something that I should add to this list comment below and I will add it! I am sure there are things I am missing or will add as time goes on. Feel free to send me an email at hello@emmatarynjones.com if you have any other questions or comments!

Much Love,

8 Things I Packed for Iceland in June

I can’t believe that our trip to Iceland is actually here! This was a trip that we actually had some what of a difficult time packing for, there was a lot that we needed to bring and not a ton of space to pack into. Iceland is the first stop on this trip and each location that we are going to pretty much is in a different season. Keep in mind this list is only the clothing specifics that I packed, not the extras, I will probably do a new blogpost on a full packing list soon. Below are 8 Things that I Packed for Iceland specifically and you can be on the lookout for blog posts for Scotland, Copenhagen and Sweden in the near future!

Have you guys been to Iceland? It has seriously been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember so checking it off and getting to experience it has been so exciting. Anything that you brought to Iceland that I missed on the list? You can comment below with any questions that you might have or let me know if you added these to your own packing lists!

7 Things to Keep in Mind When Traveling Internationally

Hi guys!

I wanted to talk about some things that I learned before and while traveling. I learned most of these thing from my parents who have traveled and also my sisters who travel A LOT! I feel like this blog post will be one of those that is always being added to just because I learn something new every time I go somewhere! Here are 7 things to know before you travel!

www.tarynintotravel.com | 7 Things to Keep in Mind While Traveling Internationally | #traveltips #internationaltravel #travelinghelp.jpeg
  1. Learn cultural norms - You will want to learn things that could potentially be offensive where you are headed that would be totally normal where you live, do some research before getting there!

  2. Know the exchange rate before you leave - It would seriously suck to get there any if cost so much more than you expected. Just know what you are getting yourself into! Sometimes its like you get a discount for yourself. For example, when I was in Singapore, it was like a discount when I would shop because of the exchange rate. Just something to pay attention to, make sure its in the budget!

  3. Alert your bank - Let your bank know that you will be making purchases in another city or country, you want them to know your travel plans so they don’t freeze your account. There is seriously nothing worse than being somewhere and your account being frozen! This happened to my whole family while we were at Disney World one time because we lived in Iowa and there were charges happening in Florida. Its a great thing that the bank does in case of fraud but a bummer if you don’t plan ahead.

4. Bring your debit card - My sister told me this one and it makes so much sense! Bring your debit card with you to the country you are traveling to and then take out cash. Refrain from pulling out cash and then exchanging money, you will lose less money this way!

5. Learn some of the language - Its important and polite to learn at least the basic words in the primary language that is spoken wherever you are headed! Things like hello, goodbye, thank you… that sort of thing! Its a nice gesture and can help you with certain situations!

6. Make sure you know that even if you plan things will not go as you planned and that’s usually where the fun stuff happen. Yes, it is nice to have a plan or an itinerary to get in all of those things on your “must do” list- it is important to also be okay with changes! While we were in Santorini we didn’t plan on spending any time hiking, but we stumbled upon it and it was one of the coolest afternoons of the trip!

7. Be cautious, but don’t be closed off! Be aware of your surroundings and the people around you, but don’t let that stop you from meeting new people and making friends on your travels! We have met so many great people on our trips and love that! We met a couple while we were in Mexico last summer and spent pretty much the whole time with them! That wouldn’t have happened if we didn’t get out of our comfort zone.

I hope that you guys found these tips helpful for your trips that you have planned! Do you have any tips to share? I feel like when you are traveling you are constantly learning and I love that! Like I said before, I’m 100% sure that I will learn something new about travel on our next trip and the trip after that.

Mayfield Lavender Field Day Trip From London

When I traveled to London with my sister last summer we had SO many things on our to-do list, we had so much to cram into five days but we did it! Now there are always things that you get home and find out you missed something but all the more reason to go back. We talked a lot about taking a day trip somewhere while we were in London but weren’t sure where to begin and we really wanted to be able to only be gone for the day. After a TON of research, we found this gorgeous lavender field that was only about an hour and 20 minute drive from where we stayed. We were pretty much sold! The photos were gorgeous and we didn’t really need more reason after that to go.

It was in Banstead, England. We left at 10:00 am and were there by 11:20. The Uber ride cost us about $40 there and $40 back. We justified the price because it was $80 for the both of us and originally we planned to leave London for the day all together and that would have cost more. To get in it cost 2.50 euros a person and totally worth it. This gave us access to the fields to take pictures and walk around all day long {which we took full advantage of}.

We ate lunch at their cafe and each got a grilled sandwich of sorts, very yummy and not too expensive. We spent in total probably 5 hours at the lavender fields and it was so much fun to just walk around and enjoy being outside. I will say that we went on a weekday and it was a bit crowded, although the crowd came and went in waves. It says on their website that on the weekends it can be very crowded and they can run out of parking. We were able to get all of the shots that we wanted without people in them. The further we walked to the back of the field, the less people there were around us.

They had a little store that sold so many goodies! Lavender cookies, teas, chocolates, lavender lemonade, so many things! Other things like jams and jellies and homemade items were for sale as well. We bought a bundle of lavender to use as a prop in pictures because you can’t pick the lavender in the field. I think this is great because it allows so many more people to enjoy it!

We were able to take so many pictures here and it was such a fun day. It was also great to be able to relax a little but and get out of the hustle and bustle of London. It was good too because we got home at about 6:30 and we were still able to go explore in the city at night and enjoy our time in London. All in all it was such a fun day and these pictures that we took will honestly last a lifetime and the memories we made there just goofing around! Oh and beware of the bees! Haha they weren’t everywhere in the fields, but there were areas where they would congregate that we avoided.

5 Things I wish I packed for Greece

5 THINGS I WISH I PACKED FOR GREECE

When I was packing for Greece it was still fairly cold in Minneapolis, yes it was the end of April but legit there was still snow on the ground. So I was totally ready for all the dresses, bikinis and shorts. I usually pack really well and bring something for every occasion but for Greece it’s like I was so excited to go I lost all common sense when it came to what I put in my suitcase haha… Here are some things that I wish I would have packed, along with one thing I was so glad that I did pack.

THINGS I WISH I HAD PACKED

www.tarynintotravel.com | 5 Things I wish I packed for Greece | Greece Packing | Europe Packing | Greece Vacation
  • A sweatshirt! It seems simple but I didn’t bring one and it was very chilly at nights, especially when we were on the ATV! It was actually so cold that we bought the typical touristy sweatshirts that say Santorini on them and we paid an unspeakable amount for them haha please avoid this and bring your own sweatshirt. Literally just picture Dustin and I riding on an ATV across Santorini at night with our sweatshirts on hahaha ohhh the memories though.

  • A big hat - I wish I would have brought one, we spent a lot of time at the beach. I am not usually a hat person at all, but I ended up buying one in Mykonos to cover my face. It actually doubled as a photo prop so it was an easy $10 to spend!

  • More rompers/practical clothes - I only packed one romper that wasn’t super dressy and ended up wearing it like 6/11 days we were there. It was perfect to wear because we were getting on and off the ATV and moped the whole time. I wish I would have brought more practical clothing. There was a lot of walking and yes I wanted to look cute but I also needed to be more realistic!

www.tarynintotravel.com | 5 Things I wish I packed for Greece | Greece Packing | Europe Packing | Greece Vacation
  • A wrap - I ended up buying a wrap because the nights were very chilly! I used this to cover my arms at night and also as a blanket. I also used it to sit on when we would get back to our ATV or moped. The seat would get really hot so I sat on it and no problem! We kept calling it the wrap of many uses because it came in handy so many times!

  • Sunglasses - This might be a no brainer to most people but somehow we both needed them so badly. I luckily brought a pair but Dustin didn’t and ended up buying some while we were there. When we were driving in Santorini there was sand/dirt that would fly into our eyes so the sunglasses helped block that from happening!

What I was so happy that I packed was JEANS! I randomly packed a pair not thinking that I would wear them and I actually wore jeans almost everyday at some point. Mostly to dinner because it was chilly on the islands at night (like I have mentioned 5 times now lol) I was so thankful to have them!

Is there anything that you always have to bring on vacations?! I would love to know!! Let me know in the comments!

SANTORINI TRAVEL GUIDE

GETTING THERE

We took another ferry from Direct Ferries to get from Mykonos to Santorini. This time instead of taking the slower boat we took the fast boat for a little bit more money. This wasn’t planned but looking back we were happy to have a shorter boat trip. It was about 2 hours to get to Santorini. Prior to the trip we had no idea how we were going to get from the boat to the hotel but once we arrived to the island, everyone and their mom wanted to take us. AKA it was easy to figure out. We just sort of shuffled off the boat and into a bus line(there were probably 50 companies wanting to take us). We basically decided we just needed to pick one because they were all really the same price. We paid $45 to get us both dropped off at our hotel. We just told them the hotel name and they knew where to go! Easy, just how I like it! I put a lot of tips for Direct Ferries in this post here!

www.tarynintotravel.com | Santorini Travel Guide | Santorini Travel | Travel Guide | Santorini Greece | Greece Vacation |

WHERE WE STAYED

We stayed at Aeolos Studios and Suites, it was so perfect! The staff was honestly incredible and so willing to help us. They called and made reservations for us, they brought us breakfast to our room every morning, brought us treats and drinks every night. We seriously came home to something cute every night! They were so happy that we were there and ready to help us at the drop of a hat. The only downside was that our jetted tub that was out on our patio wasn’t heated at all, so it was chilly for a May vacation! Also, a tip for arriving, it’s a little difficult to find. We had to go down the steps to find the reception, but once we found it, they came up and got our luggage for us, so we didn’t have to take it down any steps.

ISLAND VIBE

I think Santorini had just as many people on it as Mykonos but it was much more spread out. Oia was very crowded in the evenings! The vibe of the island was MUCH calmer though, we really enjoyed the slowness that the island had. But when I say that I don’t mean service was slow or anything, just slower paced than Mykonos and definitely slower than Athens. We loved it and it was absolutely gorgeous. Basically, lots of food, wine, relaxing and laughing! The best kind of trip!

WHERE WE ATE

Avocado - lunch here, watch out, you will start and end your meal with a shot of tequila haha lunch here was so yummy though! I got the chicken caesar salad and a side of French fries lol and Dustin got the Seafood pasta! Both were delish!

Vanilla - we ate here two times! The pizza was to die for, the views were breathtaking, and they kept the wine coming! When it’s good, it’s good.. ya know?! haha we ate on the rooftop and it was just perfect! It was chilly from the wind, but they gave us blankets to keep warm!

Da Vinci - again, I ate all the pizza that was in Greece.. if you go there and aren’t able to eat pizza it’s because I ate it all. We had lunch here and it was very good! Dustin got the Risotto Agli Scampi. When we were eating here a couple was trying to get their ATV to start and they just couldn’t figure out how to get it to move forward.. We felt horrible and Dustin was going to go help but then they started arguing so we didn’t. It was sooo awkward but so funny to watch.. haha are we horrible?!

Buddha Bar Beach Santorini - Another restaurant with STUNNING views! Absolutely gorgeous views of the caldera. We sat outside at this restaurant as well. They had fun drinks and even better appetizers! We recommend the calamari!

Skiza Cafe - We stopped in here one night when we were in Oia, the sun had just set we were so freaking hungry lol we sat on the roof and ate pizza.. I literally ate pizza every day in Greece, no I don’t see the problem. haha

GETTING AROUND

When we were in Santorini we rented an ATV to get around, this was a bit pricier than the moped in Mykonos but definitely worth it! Plus, we could go faster on the ATV, which was good for going from one side of the island to the other! It cost us about $70 for two days, but they let us park it there whenever we needed. It was perfect, we parked there and walked like two minutes to our hotel room!

SITES TO SEE/THINGS TO DO

Kissing Fish - WHAT AN EXPERIENCE haha I had done a fish spa prior to Greece but Dustin hadn’t. It was hilarious! Yes, you will be nervous, yes it will tickle, yes you will laugh until you cry. Hands down you need to add this to the list of activities!! It was also a beautiful facility and the staff were so nice! Update: unfortunately, when I was updating links in 2022, I found out this place has closed.

Santo Winery- It was beautiful here! We ended up bringing a couple of bottles home from this winery! The staff was so knowledgable of the wines and really helped us figure out what to order based on what we liked! We sat there for at least three hours drinking all the wine, eating all the cheese and looking at the breathtaking views of the caldera!

Perissa Beach - This was a more publicized beach, there were more people and tons of restaurants and bars. We only spent about an hour here. It looked like you could rent jet skis here as well, lots to do on this beach!

Akrotiri Lighthouse- This was a fun unplanned half day trip! It was the cutest lighthouse called the Akrotiri lighthouse. It was first built in 1892!🤓 This wasn't even something we planned on doing, we just sort of stumbled upon it on our search for lunch, but we ended up spending so much time here(disregarding our hungry stomachs) lol

Vlichada Beach - We got stuck at this beach.. literally our ATV broke down here(the company was so awesome, they came and brought us a new AVT). BUT if we were going to break down anywhere I would prefer it to be on this gorgeous beach! It had a cute little restaurant here too but we didn’t stop because we were preoccupied with getting off the beach.. lol we definitely recommend visiting this one! It was also fun because we found so so many clay tiles (we think from old buildings) that had washed up on the beach. This is also the beach where the dock was for Caldera Yachting day trip!

Caldera Yachting - this was one of our favorite days of the entire 11 day Greece vacation. It was so relaxing and beautiful. We went snorkeling, and swimming in multiple spots. Plus, they would get you beer or wine, just ask and it’s yours! Also, there was a chef on board who made the most incredible assortment of foods for lunch. It was seriously so much more amazing than you could have ever imagined having food prepared on a boat. Plus you could smell the delicious food the whole time you were swimming! It was also so much fun to get to know the people that were on the boat with us, like where they were from, how their vacation was going and things like that. We love meeting new people! You can get 15% off your tour by using the code caldera2019 when you pre-book your cruise! We would definitely recommend the day trip just because its warm enough to swim and you can dry off in the sun! I think if we would have taken the sunset trip it would have been very cold, especially in May. While it would have been romantic, I think we would have been over it after the sun went down.. ha just being honest!

I hope you guys enjoy this Santorini Travel Guide and you find it useful for planing your own trips! Be sure to check out the posts from Athens and Mykonos as well! As always, let me know what you think and if you have any questions at all!

GETTING THERE

We took a boat with Direct Ferries and then once we arrived on the island, our hotel had a car waiting for us. We just had to call the day before to let them know when we would be arriving. And there were actually more people on the boat with us that were going to our hotel! I put a lot of tips for Direct ferries in this post here!

WHERE WE STAYED

We booked all three of our hotels through hotels.com, we usually use hotels.com if we are not staying at the same hotel for the whole trip and I think that always gives us the best deals! If we were to stay at the same hotel, we would buy a flight/hotel combo through Expedia! We stayed at Hotel Poseidon and we LOVED IT! It was honestly my favorite hotel of the three in Greece.. with Santorini being a CLOSE second. This hotel had jaw dropping views of the windmills and the ocean! We also loved their hotel bar and pool area. They had great seating and you could order lunch and/or drinks at the pool bar, too! The room we stayed in was gorgeous and we loved the balcony that we had, perfect for morning coffee and the sunrise. They had a HUGE buffet for breakfast! Literally anything you could think of, it was there. Seriously, they had things like eggs, sausages, potatoes, all the fruit in the world, oatmeal, yogurt..mmm…greek yogurt… The staff was so nice and eager to help us with anything that we needed. One of the days that we were there we got caught in the pouring rain and stopped in the front office and the receptionist was like “oh no, you are soaking wet! Let me get you a couple of towels”! We didn’t even need to ask!

ISLAND VIBE

We loved the vibe on Mykonos, before we got there we had heard things like it’s such a party island and that it’s crowded and loud. We aren’t big partiers so we were a little worried about it. Thankfully we didn’t experience anything like that! Not sure if that’s because the island isn’t that way or just because it was May when we were there. Mykonos in my mind was exactly what I had pictured Santorini to be, which was odd. But we loved the beaches, the town and the little shops. Everyone was so friendly, we loved talking to the shop owners to learn a little about them! One thing that happened to us a few times while we were in town was that we kept feeling like we were somewhere we shouldn’t be. Really, you can walk anywhere! I think we kept feeling like that because the paths would get narrower and narrower the more we would get in to houses rather than shops. But these narrow passes are where we got our best pictures. Don’t be afraid to explore and get lost!

WHERE WE ATE

Sea Satin Market - MEH. It looks like it’s going to be a really great restaurant but its WAY overpriced, and the service was sub-par. We planned on staying for dinner but only ended up getting a couple of appetizers. Yes, they have a great view, but the view can be seen from outside the restaurant for free.

Nice N Easy - We had lunch here one day and it was great! It had a really nice view of the ocean and we ate outside. This was one of those restaurants where they had someone standing outside and they sort of just pull you in and persuade you to eat at the restaurant. You can read more about that here!

Sushi Med Mykonos - you guys…they put canned tuna in our sushi roll.. We totally had to choke the roll down because the waitress was so nice. We felt bad leaving having eaten almost nothing, but we knew the island was full of good food and we weren’t going to waste a dinner there!

Casa di Giorgio - We got the 4-cheese pizza with white sauce and OH MAN was it good, LIFE CHANGING. We also had many a glasses of Sangria and I think it was the best I have ever had. I’m pretty much sangria connoisseur and it was SO good.

D’Angelo Restaurante - So nice you have to say it twice… kidding, but we did eat there twice. It was that good! The Formaggi pizza.. bomb! The spinach ravioli was also amazing. Just watch out for the lemonchello they serve you at the end… haha it is definitely an acquired taste that neither of us ..acquired

Porto Ornos Greek Cucine - This place was on the beach that we went to one day.. I will tell you more later! But the food was excellent. We sat outside and it was delicous!

Trio Bambini- We got ice cream here one day and it was very good! We walked by it so often and finally went in on our last day there! They had a cute outdoor seating area and cute decor and it sucked us in!

GETTING AROUND

We rented a moped while we were on the island for two of the three days and it cost 40 euros for two days. The name of the place was Mihalis - Rent a bike, it was perfect because it was up the road, maybe a 3 minute walk from our hotel! The guy that owned it was very straight forward. It was a fast process and took cash. We had to leave our ID there until we took the moped back. We preferred a moped because the streets were so narrow! He told us where to get gas and not to take it into town. Quick and painless!

SITES TO SEE

Windmills of Kato Mili - We could actually see this from our hotel which was super cool!

Cape Mykonos- This is a hotel, but the beach attached to it was great (which has no name, blahhh)! It was right up the road from our hotel in the opposite direction from the town. It was quiet and there were really only a couple of other people on the beach!

Ornos Beach- This is a beach that we took the afternoon to go to, it was like a 10-15 minute ride on the moped. Nice sand and lots of restaurants around there to eat at, this is when we ate at Porto Ornos Greek Cucine. This beach was a bit more crowded though!

We spent so much time walking through all of the shops in the little town! They had everything from like mom and pop shops to Louis Vuitton! You could spend days here.. we did! Not to mention the million pops of bright colors from the flowers that were everywhere! It was gorgeous!

TIPS

-During the morning, it can get really crowded because of the people getting off of cruise ships, it was crowded from like 9:00am to 1:00pm.

-The locals would drive their mopeds around in the little streets, so watch out for that! Otherwise you might find yourself being honked at lol

Every time we talk about our entire Greece trip I always say, “I seriously loved Mykonos so much!” Don’t get me wrong, I loved Athens and Santorini too, but something about Mykonos just makes me so so excited! I hope this helps you guys when you are planning your trips to Greece! Please comment or email me if you have any other questions, I love hearing from you!
